What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness can be defined as “the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.”

Why is mindfulness important?

In today’s society, we tend to struggle with being present. In our internal world, we are prone to dwelling in the past with all of it’s memories and regrets, or to look to the future, with all of our hopes, plans, and worries. Rarely do we allow ourselves to just be present. Allowing ourselves to practice mindfulness gives us an ability to be aware of what is taking place without being reactive to or overwhelmed by it. It increases our ability to successfully navigate through life.
