Our Approach

Navigating through life’s journey is a top priority at Nave Wellness Center. This focus not only applies to the clients we walk alongside but also includes the journey of the helping professional. We emphasize the importance of continually educating and training therapists at all levels of development so that clients consistently receive high quality care. Operating as a teaching practice, the team of therapists at Nave Wellness Center also includes both clinical apprentices and clinical residents.

What are the benefits of working with our clinical apprentices and residents?

  • Multiple levels of oversight: clinical apprentices and residents work under supervision, giving clients a treatment team that includes fresh perspectives, innovative approaches, and the clarity and experience of our seasoned therapists.

  • Consistency of schedule: our highly motivated clinical apprentices and residents have heightened availability to meet with clients and ensure clients receive their desired frequency of treatment.

  • Additional therapeutic services: the presence of clinical apprentices and residents allows for more offerings, like group therapy sessions, which may be more affordable with similar efficacy to individual therapy services.

  • Increased ability to work with trauma: We provide ongoing trauma-focused trainings to clinical apprentices and residents so that they can combine a variety of therapeutic modalities in a pragmatic approach to meet all of a client’s needs.

What is a clinical apprentice?

Clinical apprentices are master’s or doctoral level graduate students who are earning hours of experience toward their graduate degree and eventual licensure. They have finished a majority of their required coursework and are in the final stages of completing their degree. Many degree programs will use other terms for this role - internship, practicum, externships, etc. Our training program at Nave Wellness Center also fulfills the requirements of these roles. We have chosen the term “apprenticeship” to more tangibly describe the hands-on work that these students will participate in. Clinical apprentices are trainee therapists that carry their own caseload of clients and work under close supervision as they develop their therapeutic abilities and meet clients’ needs.

What is a clinical resident?

Clinical residents are master’s or doctoral level counselors who are either working on completing the state requirements to get provisionally licensed or are provisionally licensed and are practicing under supervision until they have accrued required hours and completed other state requirements to gain their independent professional license.
